Minutes of Regular Meeting

September 9, 1999

 

Vice-President Joseph Gorman convened the regular meeting of the Springfield Township Business Association at 12:02 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 1999 in The Grove Banquet Hall, 9158 Winton Road. Thirty-two members were in attendance and enjoyed a box lunch provided through Cincinnati Concessions.

Business of the Month: Digital Generations, Inc. -- Hali Grauvogel, owner

Announcements:

A producer is needed for business of the month program on Waycross Television. This will be a feature of the Economic Development Quarterly coordinated by Thom Schneider. To volunteer, call 825-2429.

The Business Association is seeking an archivist to develop a system of record keeping for the organization. Please contact Joe Gorman or Cathy Bonewell.

Finneytown Civic Association will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting topic is one of interest to STBA members - the proposed widening of Winton Road.

Mike Hinnenkamp, Township Administrator, announced that the Board of Trustees will also discuss this topic at their regular meeting at 6:30 p.m on Tuesday, September 14. Deputy County Engineer Ted Hubbard and Craig Kowalski of Balke Engineers will provide information to the Board and answer questions from the audience. Mr. Hinnenkamp indicated that the Township is planning to form a task force to study access management along the Winton Road business corridor and asked for volunteers to serve on this committee. Meetings are scheduled to start in late fall 1999 and continue for about one year. Please call 522-1410 if you are interested in serving.

Committee Reports:

Adopt a Highway - the next clean-up of Ronald Reagan Highway is scheduled to take place at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 1999. Volunteers are requested to meet at the Township Fire Department, 8375 Winton Road.

Business Expo - The August 13 event, held in conjunction with the Springfield Township Groovin' at the Grove concert, was well attended. Approximately 20 companies participated. Cathy Bonewell received praise for her efforts in coordinating this first ever event. It was suggested that the next Expo start later and continue a little later so more residents could visit the booths.

Newsletter: Items of interest should be submitted to Cathy Bonewell as soon as possible.

Membership: Gail Jacobs reported 70 members to date. The "Business of the Month" will be featured on the marquee in front of the Township Administration Building any time there is not an event scheduled at the Banquet Hall.

Programs: Nancy Grathwohl announced that Tom Tally of Tally Electronics will be the featured speaker at the Wednesday, November 10 meeting. (Note date change due to Veterans Day holiday) Mr. Tally's topic will be holiday surveillance. This is also the Association's Annual Meeting .

Guest Speaker: Mr. Gary Hollander, CFP, enlightened members on the importance of using employee benefits to recruit and retain good employees.
