Minutes of Regular Meeting

September 10, 1998

President Robin McNulty convened the regular meeting of the Springfield Township Business Association at 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 1998 in The Grove Banquet Hall, 9158 Winton Road. Twenty-eight members were in attendance.

The "Member Spotlight" fell on John Musselman, Service Director for Springfield Township, who explained the duties and responsibilities of his department.

The Treasurer's report was approved as given. Mr. Dale reported that the Association now has 48 paid members. Committee Reports:
Programs:

Adopt-A-Highway - the Association has been assigned a two-mile section of US 126 (Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway) between Galbraith Road and Hamilton Avenue. ODOT will install marker signs stating the highway is being cleaned by the Springfield Township Business Association. A safety meeting conducted by ODOTis required prior to the first clean up session.

Speaker for the November 12 meeting will be Jim Reichel, head of 5th 3rd Bank Security and a former FBI agent, who will speak on "white collar crime" and protecting our businesses during the busy holiday season.

Land Use & Zoning:

This committee needs members and someone to act as liaison. Members are asked to call the Township Administration Office (522-1410) and leave a name and number if interested.

Communications:

Members are asked to contact Cathy Bonewell or Joe Gorman with suggestions and/or information for the Newsletter.

Ed Lutz of Exodus On Line (EOS) has set up a web site for the Association. Visit the site at http://www2.EOS.net/STBA.

Government Affairs:

This committee has no active chairperson and no one has expressed an interest in serving at this time. At present, there do not seem to be any pressing issues to convey to government bodies.

Old Business:
None

New Business:
Several members expressed concern that there is no longer a branch "post office" in the area since the closing of Mitchell Drug Store. If any business is interested in filling this need, please step forward. In addition to providing the space for this branch, it will be necessary to dedicate personnel to man the station.

Speakers:
Michael Hinnenkamp, Township Administrator, presented the Springfield Township Land Use Plan that was developed after an extensive study by a committee of residents and business owners appointed by the Township Trustees in June 1997. This plan is to be used as a guide by the Trustees, County Commissioners and their respective zoning commissions when considering the appropriateness of a zone change requested by the owner of any property in the township.

Ted Hubbard, Chief Deputy County Engineer, discussed the proposed widening of Winton Road. This project will have both an immediate and lasting impact on the many retail establishments located along this "business corridor" of the township. A great deal of information sharing will be required during construction and in the development of a workable access management plan to lessen any adverse impact due to customer frustration in gaining entry to the business community. Mr. Hubbard indicated this would be a good time for the STBA to become involved in the Access Management Team that will study these issues.

President McNulty adjourned the meeting at 9:10 a.m.
