President Joseph Gorman convened the regular meeting of the Springfield Township Business Association at 8:09 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2000 in The Grove Banquet Hall, 9158 Winton Road. Seventeen members and three guests were in attendance.
Treasurer Bob Will reported a beginning balance of $2849.74, income of $983.75 and expenditures of $516.32 for an ending balance of $3,317.17. He noted that most of the income was derived from operation of food booths at the Township's Groovin' at the Grove concerts.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Communications: Newsletter was mailed to all businesses in the Township. If anyone has ideas to be included in future issues, please contact Joe Gorman.
Adopt-a-Highway: Peggy Doller reminded everyone that the next scheduled clean-up on Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway will be Saturday, September 23, 2000. Meet at Fire Headquarters, 8375 Winton Road at 8:00 a.m. This will complete our two-year commitment to the Ohio Department of Transportation. If anyone is interested in continuing this project, please contact Mr. Gorman.
Membership: Buzz Volz asked for members to serve on the Nominating Committee for the upcoming election in November. He also asked for recommendations for candidates for officers and trustees and suggestions for any goals members would like to see addressed in the next year.
Programs: Nancy Grathwohl stated that members will inform the association of the Winton Road Corridor Task Force progress to date. In addition, election of officers will take place at the November 9 meeting.
Inter-Governmental: Township Administrator Michael Hinnenkamp reported there are many rumors circulating about Brentwood Plaza Shopping Center but, at this time, negotiations have not progressed to the point management can make any announcements about the future of the Plaza. He noted that the Township has been involved in several improvement projects in conjunction with other agencies for the good of the Township; for example, improvements to Vine Street (City of Cincinnati and Hamilton County), improvements to Hamilton Avenue (Colerain Township and Forest Park) and the Winton Road Task Force (Hamilton County). A discussion regarding rental units elicited the response that Section 8 is a federal program and the Township has no control over who can rent their house or apartment to a recipient.
Business EXPO: Mr. Gorman presented certificates of appreciation to committee members Cathy Bonewell, Gene Burton and Buzz Volz with sincere thanks for a very successful event.
Speakers: Harry Blanton, Lou Ann Walden and Angie Howard of the Hamilton County Development Company spoke of the services provided by Hamilton County Development Company. This agency, started by the County Commissioners as a Small Business Incubator in Norwood, now focuses on business retention, site location, and small business loans. They also conduct studies, such as is being done for the Winton Road Corridor, focusing on revitalization, traffic management, attracting businesses and aesthetics.
They oversee Enterprise Zones offering tax incentives, have a free database of available sites and work closely with commercial real estate agencies. Loans and counseling are available through the Small Business Development Center and the Microloan Program.
