Minutes of Regular Meeting

January 13, 2000

 

President Joseph Gorman convened the regular meeting of the Springfield Township Business Association at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2000 in The Grove Banquet Hall, 9158 Winton Road. Thirty-three members were in attendance.

Minutes of the November 10, 1999 meeting were approved on motion by Tom Bryan and second by Margaret Buresch. Treasurer Bob Will reported a balance of $2,457.04.

Committee Reports:

Land Use & Zoning: Kathy Koops reported that the first meeting of the Winton Road Task Force will take place on Monday, January 24, 2000 at 5:00 p.m. in the Township Administration Building. This committee will study proposed improvements to the Winton Road corridor with particular emphasis on access management.

Membership: Gail Jacobs noted that the organization now has 78 members

Program: Nancy Grathwohl announced that the March 9 meeting will be a luncheon meeting with Hamilton County Auditor Dusty Rhodes as speaker. There may be a charge for lunch, possibly $5.

Communications: Leslie Ivey asked that all items for the newsletter be sent to her before February 20th for inclusion in the issue to be mailed approximately two weeks before the March 9 meeting.

Business of the Month: Mercy Franciscan Health Care Partners

Director Sharon Thornton explained the mission and features of Mercy Franciscan Terrace, a full service retirement community and rehabilitation center on Compton Road, and Mercy Franciscan at Winton Woods, scheduled to open May 20, where 73 senior apartments will be provided in the renovated St. Francis Seminary building on Mill Road. Also present were Christy Schiller, Admissions Coordinator at Franciscan Terrace, and Angela Kaiser, project coordinator at the Winton Woods facility.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Donald Schmidt, Superintendent of Finneytown Schools

After thanking the Association for donation of a tree to be planted at Whitaker Elementary School, Dr. Schmidt spoke of the changes he foresees in education in the future. He stressed that businesses must work with schools to provide the education and vocational training necessary to prepare our youth to lead the country forward in the 21st Century.

Announcements:

  1. There will be a retreat for the Board of Directors on January 29, 2000 at the home of President Gorman.
  2. The next clean-up session for our Adopt-A-Highway project is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on March 11. Meet at the Firehouse, 8375 Winton Road.
  3. Township Administrator Michael Hinnenkamp will appear live on Waycross Television on February 24 to answer call-in questions from residents regarding Township issues.

Business of the Month for March 2000 is Sibcy Cline Real Estate.
