PRESENT: Joe Gorman, Nancy
Grathwohl, Leslie Ivey, Gail Jacobs, Buzz Volz, Bob
Will, Peggy Doller and Gene Burton who was
substituting for Kathy Koop. Ms. Koop was excused due
to a death in the family.
The Board of Directors met at
8:00 a.m. in the conference room at River City
Capital, 800 Compton Road.
President Joe Gorman reported on
the retreat for Board members held at his home on
January 29, 2000. He will contact Shroyer Nursery to
order the tree the Association is donating to Whitaker
Elementary School.
Treasurer Bob Will reported a
bank balance of $3,239.21 with approximately $200 in
checks to be deposited. Mr. Will suggested a regular
audit be included in the Association's
by-laws.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Communications - Leslie
Ivey: We will continue to use Express Graphics to
handle our mailings and use their bulk mail system. If
necessary, members could meet to assist with folding
or other steps involved in preparation of the media.
Members should contact Leslie with ideas for the
newsletter (going to press next week) and/or articles
for publication in The Hilltop or Enquirer. Volunteers
are needed for the Highway clean up on March 11 and
for food booths at the Township's summer concerts on
July 21 and August 18.
Membership - Gail
Jacobs: New membership applications have slowed
and very few have included interest in serving on a
committee. Of the 98/99 membership, 47 have renewed at
this time. Board members will make personal calls to
those who have not renewed rather than sending letters
or forms. Peg Doller will take an application to
Cokesbury Book Store and someone will contact
Applebee's.
Programs - Nancy
Grathwohl: Dusty Rhodes will be the speaker at
the noon meeting on March 9. Lunch will be $5.00 and
reservations must be called to Nancy. Due to business
commitments, Nancy asked that Buzz Volz arrange for
the speaker on May 11.
Buzz Volz proposed giving a
subscription to The Wall Street Journal to
Finneytown High School. He stated that the Journal
publicizes sponsors and this is good public relations
for our Association. Gail Jacobs made a Motion to
approve the expenditure of $165.00 for a one-year
subscription to The Wall Street Journal.
Nancy Grathwohl seconded and the Motion
carried.
Nancy Grathwohl made a Motion
that the Association present a gift certificate as a
token of appreciation to guest speakers and to
authorized expenditures in the amount of $100. Gail
Jacobs seconded and the Motion carried.
Other Matters of
Interest:
- Peg Doller suggested that
local businesses sponsor trophies to be given at
the Classic Car Show. This will be presented at the
regular meeting on March 9.
- Gail Jacobs had secured a
bid to print polo shirts. Board members will look
into this further.
- Gene Burton reported on the
Business Expo scheduled for July 21 from 6:00 -
7:30 p.m. He hopes to have 25-30 tables in The
Grove Hall with an Association table in the front
where maps, tote bags, etc will be distributed.
There was discussion about charging non-members $35
for participation with the hope that they will
choose to become members. It is important to have
announcements of the Expo made over the public
address system to attract visitors. Gene will talk
with Tina Prentovic about a dance recital on the
stage of the Grove (Tina is a member and always
draws a good audience).
- Buzz Volz reported progress
with the interview show on Waycross Television. He
suggested the show begin with visits to business
locations and later move to studio
shots.
- Nancy Grathwohl gave a brief
run down on the Winton Road Task Force meeting. If
anyone has ideas concerning strengths and
weaknesses in the corridor, particularly related to
access management issues, they should fax them to
her at 521-5245.
- Joe Gorman met with a
representative of the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of
Commerce about an associate membership in that
organization. However, our name may preclude our
acceptance since we are not actually a
"chamber".
The meeting adjourned at 9:30
a.m.
