STBA News - Volume 3, Issue 5

September, 2000

Nominations for 2001

We're gearing up to elect new officers and board members at our November 9 meeting. Please consider joining our leadership to help make our community better and your business more profitable.

Highway Clean Up Sept. 23

The STBA will have another clean up of our adopted stretch of Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway on Saturday, Sept. 23.

We will meet at the Springfield Township Firehouse on Winton Road (by western exit onto Cross County.

Please come out and help us clean the road. Also, this clean up will be the finale for Peggy Doller, our Secretary, who is retiring at the end of the year from her position with the Springfield Township.

Business Expo and Groovin at the Grove Review

We had great success with our food booth at both the July and August Groovin' at the Grove events. Several volunteers helped coordinate and staff the food booth, where we sold scrumptious hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken and metts. Bob Will, Gene Burton, Maggie and Bob from Brentwood Bowl, Kathy Depperman, Gail Jacobs, Carol Provisor and her friend Richard, and Joseph Gorman raised nearly $300 for STBA.

The July event was held in conjunction with our second annual Business Expo, held again inside the Grove. Over twenty companies shared their wares with the public. A great Tae Kwon Do demonstration by grandmaster Hong Kong Kim's Finneytown Branch helped draw people in to the Grove to make it a true Business EXPOsure!

The Expo was even more special this year, as Brentwood Swim Club displayed many historic artifacts from the club's history. These artifacts were saved from the fire at the club, which occurred the night before the Expo. So, the STBA take share in the credit in helping a fellow business retain important linkages to the past. The crew at the Expo table were already busy planing a fundraiser to rebuild! Thanks go to the Expo Committee: Buzz Volz, Gene Burton, and Cathy Bonewell. Also, many kudos to Deborah Reynolds from Queen City Balloons, who made the Expo glitter with class.

The August Groovin' at the Grove booth was manned by Gene Burton, Bob Will, Cathy Bonewell and her mother, Jean Cook and friend, Tammy Bennet. They earned $478.75 for our organization. The weather and entertainment were great. The custom car show was fantastic! Although working the booth did not give us much time to view the entertainment, it was still a good time. Thanks to everyone who worked the booth and to those who purchased from us.

We encourage all our STBA members to participate in the food booths, too, as it offers a great opportunity to meet and serve new customers.
