STBA News - Volume 3, Issue 3
May, 2000
JOSEPH T. GORMAN • PRESIDENT
Many rumors are flying around regarding new business activity in Springfield Township, in particularly, in Finneytown.
The former UDF store at Hempstead and Winton is being readied for a Blockbuster Video. Many residents are excited.
The former West Coast Video store across the street is slated to become a CVS Pharmacy, which is vacating its Brentwood Plaza space. CVS is seeking the new lot because of the drive-thru capability.
By the way, there appears to be a massive property acquisition and site development effort by drug store chains (CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid) all over the country. An aging population seems to be the catalyst behind this industry growth, as demand for prescrption drugs escalates.
This growth, however, has created some controversy, as many large and small towns are seeing prime real estate taken over by these homogenized, drug store chains. Small businesses are being squeezed out.
Our business association is sesitive both to the impact of small buisnesses to our way of life in America, and to the health of the general economy.
I encourage you to join our business association. We need your input oon a wide range of issues affecting business in today's "new economy." Call me at 521-4297.
Don't forget that we are having our Second Annual STBA Expo on July 21st from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at the Grove on Winton Road. The Expo will be held in conjunction with the Springfield Township's Groovin' at the Grove event. There will be plenty of food, music and dancing. The STBA is sponsering a trophy for the Classic Car Show at the next Groovin' at the Gorve, August 18.
Karen Hug is making arrangements to have a Tae Kwon Do demonstration to help draw spectators and potential business clients to the Expo. There are a limited number of tables available.
For further information or to reserve you table contact Gene Burton from the Will Agency at 522-2650 or Cathy Bonewell at 851-6929.
