STBA News - Volume 2, Issue 6
January, 2000
Dr. Donald Schmidt, superintendent of the Finneytown School District (FSD),
will be our featured speaker at the next STBA meeting, Thursday, January 13,
2000 at 8 a.m. at the Grove.
Don will discuss how business can help schools. He will also take questions.
Dr. Schmidtt is retiring at the end of this school year. There will be many
changes facing the district. For more school news, check the web site:

The STBA is showing support of the Whitaker Elementary School staff with a tree.
Association President Joseph Gorman said the group wanted to show the Finneytown school it appreciated the way the school staff, parents, Northminster Presbyterian Church, and the community handled the temporary closing of the school due to construction.
“Education is an important foundation for both civic and business involvement,“ said Mr. Gorman. “The STBA strives to better support all the school districts in Springfield Township, and purchasing a tree at Whitaker School is simply a small first step.”
The STBA is well-represented on the Winton Road access management committee. This group will assist Springfield Township and Hamilton County in their efforts to improve Winton Road over the next few years.

Business Expo

Main Street to Global Commerce
JOSEPH T. GORMAN • PRESIDENT
As new president of the STBA, I want to welcome you to another exciting year for business.
To be alive while we change our calendars to the year 2000, is a momentous opportunity to both reflect on the past and to project into the future. Our past ways of doing business have been influenced so much by technology, communication and finances. Simply ponder the use, investment and returns we have gained from using computers, faxes, cell phones, e-mail and web sites. Think about the many sources of financial support your business uses, such as venture capital, credit cards, interstate banking.
Main Street commerce is quickly giving way to global commerce (read the book, The Lexus and the Olive Tree, by Thomas Freidman, 1999). The use of web sites, company mergers, common languages, transportation consolidations, help to make all the world our new customer.
