STBA Has Forty-Six Members and Growing

by Chuck Dale, Treasurer

Since our March 11, 1998 initial meeting of the Springfield Township Business Association, we have enjoyed an average of 50-60 attendees at our May and July regular meetings. We are pleased to announce that the STBA has currently received membership dues from 46 companies. We have a diversified membership roster, but there are nearly 700 businesses in Springfield Township; we've got a lot of opportunity to grow!

The newsletter will be a member benefit. For your company to get the next newsletter, make sure you sign up as a member. Let's see how many more businesses we can add to our numbers. We want to have a voice in our community. Together we can make that happen.

  4. to build community - Help strengthen the community by organizing projects and activities that build our goodwill and make the township a great place to live.

Adopt a Highway

by Peg Doller, Recording Secretary

We have started the necessary paperwork for the Adopt a Highway program. If approved, STBA will remove litter from a two-mile section of Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway between Galbraith Rd. and Hamilton Avenue. ODOT will place signs on the highway stating that the section has been adopted by STBA. We get free advertising and they get free labor.

Litter must be removed at least 4 times per year between October 98 and September 2000. Bags, vests and warning signs are provided by ODOT. Please sign up for the fun. It's good exercise and a great way to get to know your fellow members!

Kiwanis Need Space

by Peg Doller, Recording Secretary

The Northwest Kiwanis Club is seeking space to reconstruct their train display. Many will remember this display from its holiday appearances at Brentwood Plaza and Forest Fair Mall. Last year a fire wiped out all their hard work and they must start over. The club needs a place where they can meet once a week between 7-10 p.m. to begin the rebuilding.

Call Larry Keller at 728-3344.

Sept. 10 Agenda

At our next meeting, Springfield Township Administrator Mike Hinnenkamp will present the Springfield Township Land Use Plan. Deputy County Engineer Ted Hubbard will discuss the plan to widen Winton Road and how it will impact our businesses.

Mill Road Development

by Cathy Bonewell

In July the Springfield Township Trustees held a special meeting to ratify a zoning request change for the 110-acre area on Mill Road owned by the St. John the Baptist of the Order of Friars Minor. This land has been used for the seminary. The Friars were asking for the rezoning so that the Franciscan Health Center could develop a large nursing home/retirement community.

The property is being developed by the Miller-Valentine Group. The neighbors of the property were concerned about the loss of wildlife and possible damage to Winton Woods. Miller-Valentine has promised to be considerate of the trees and other vegetation and to have a buffer zone from the neighbors as well as Winton Woods park. This site will be developed on an as needed basis over the next 15 years.
