SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
GENERAL MEETING SEPTEMBER 11, 2003
The breakfast meeting was held at the Springfield Township Senior Center in Room A. There were 9 people in attendance.
The meeting was called to order at 8:15 a.m. by President Deborah Reynolds.
Ms. Reynolds announced that the next general meeting will be a luncheon on Thursday, November 13. Elections will take place that day.
Treasurers Report Bob Will gave the following report:
Balance as of last general meeting - $2,608.72
Income 261.94
Expenses 234.35
Current Balance $2,636.31
There are 53 paid members.
Committee Reports:
- Communications Chip Berquist was out of town and no report was available.
- Programs Denise Cagle is no longer with Sunrise Assisted Living, but has set up speakers for coming meetings.
- Membership No report.
- Land Use & Zoning Bob Trenkamp reported there is a lot of new construction currently going on in the township. New Fire Department/Administration Building has begun, expanded and renovated Police Department is underway and Bobs new office building on Compton Road is under construction. Bob also reported that plans for the demolition and construction of the new Kroger have been approved by the County.
Township Update Deanna Kuennen, Development Services Director for Springfield Township.
- Pictures of progress of the new Fire Department construction will be on the township website.
- The Police Department work is 50% complete.
- Hamilton County is applying for SCIP (State Capital Improvement Projects) funds for the Winton Road corridor improvements. Planned streetscape improvements will go along with that. Final public streetscape meeting is October 6 at 6:30 at the Grove.
- The township wants to create a Road Corridor Overlay District to help control the business district along Winton Road.
- Demolition of Cheap Beds and Furniture should begin within a month.
- No plans for the current Kroger store.
- Warder Nursery on hold Board of Trustees has directed staff to look for funding sources, such as grants, to help with construction.
- Questions about what plans the county has for Winton Road improvements will be addresses at an open meeting at the Grove at 7:00 on October 1.
- Daytime Curfew and how it relates to township businesses: Trustees are considering adopting a daytime curfew that would be in effect during the school year. Does not affect in-service days or home schooled children. The adoption of the curfew is a cry for help from many township businesses.
- Monday, September 15 at 6:30 will be an open meeting to discuss all resolutions proposed: Daytime Curfew, Vicious Dogs Ban, Property Maintenance Code and Right of Way Regulations.
Old Business:
- Groovin at the Grove: Deborah reported 15 businesses were involved with the Business Expo. Suggested re-structuring the event. Working the food booth brings in revenue for the STBA. Is the Expo worth continuing? Bob Will wants to continue the food booth. It is the organizations only fund raiser.
- Deborah wants to look into other fund raising ideas.
New Business:
- President Reynolds reported that she is attending the Regional Commerce Partnership (RCP) planning board meeting later today.
- Planning a "Power Lunch" on October 15.
- They host quarterly RCP meetings and a holiday get together each year. These are opportunities to network with other businesses.
- RCP directory available for $10.
Introduction of Speaker:
Ms. Reynolds introduced Martin Thomas, acupuncturist with the Holistic Health Center located on Compton Road. The center is run by Dr. David Fabre, M.D, and uses homeopathy and conventional medications to treat the whole person. Some insurance policies pay for the acupuncture treatments. Prescriptions are needed to see a non-M.D. acupuncturist, but most doctors will write them. Telephone number at the Holistic Health Center is 521-5333.
Announcements:
- The first Residential Recycle and Cleanup Day in Springfield Township is Saturday, September 13.
- The Holiday Winter Festival at the Grove is Sunday, December 7.
- The Cincinnati Civic Orchestra Holiday Concert is Sunday, December 14 at the Grove.
- Powel Crosley YMCA is currently offering $150 off a new membership to promote the opening of their new indoor water park.
- Business Spotlight Laura Kinney, a new STBA member, will open Curves for Women in January. The business will be located in either Brentwood Plaza or in the strip center on Winton Road across from Hempstead Drive. Curves is an international company that features 30 minute fitness workouts on hydraulic machines. Call 266-2372 for more information.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15.
The next Board meeting is Thursday, October 9 at 8:00 a.m. in the conference room of the Springfield Township Administration Building.
