SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
GENERAL MEETING Ð
MAY 13, 2004
The meeting was held at the Springfield Township Senior Center. There were thirteen people in attendance.
Following lunch, President Rhys Reynolds called the meeting to order at 12:02 p.m. All in attendance were asked to identify themselves and state what business they represent.
TreasurerÕs Report Ð Treasurer Bob Will read the following report:
Balance as of last general meeting: $2,703.43
Income $1,550.44
Current Balance $2,891.97

Communications Ð Scott
Ficke has taken over responsibility for publishing the newsletter. The most recent newsletter was received
by businesses prior to the May 13th meeting. Ms. Reynolds will ask that a newsletter
go out during the summer.

Programs Ð
Nancy Phillips was not able to attend the meeting. The next general meeting is Thursday, September 9,
2004. The location has not been
determined, however, anyone is welcome to volunteer their business.
á Membership Ð Karen Burton reported that we have 42 membership renewals. Also, member businesses need to tell other businesses about the STBA.

Land Use and Zoning Ð Ms. Reynolds attended the Township Trustee meeting on Tuesday, May 11th
and had this to report: 1) Winton Savings applied for a zoning change to allow
for a new ATM machine. 2) Panera
Bread applied for zoning to open a new restaurant at the corner of Cloverview
and Winton. 3) CiCiÕs Pizza is
going in at Brentwood Plaza. 4)
New Plan Realty hopes to have Brentwood Plaza 100% occupied by fall of 2004. 5) The old Kroger site does not have a tenant to date.

New Business:
Chamber
of Commerce:
á Discussion took place about STBA becoming a Chamber of Commerce. In Ohio, the group must be incorporated to become a Chamber.
á Becoming a Chamber of Commerce has advantages Ð can become a member of the Southern Ohio Chamber Alliance and receive health care and dental care discounts as well as other discounts for various services.
á Can join the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This organization has lobbying power in the Senate.
á The STBA Board met prior to the general meeting. The Board voted to bring a motion before the general membership to vote to become a Chamber of Commerce.
á Cost of legal paperwork is Approximately $800 - $1,000. The cost of this legal assistance will be paid out of the organizationÕs treasury.
á Discussion took place in reference to the cost of keeping an incorporated status. President Reynolds recalled that a fee must be paid every ten years.
á Vice President Andy Boettcher made the motion to incorporate and become the Springfield Township Chamber of Commerce. Gene Burton seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Business Expo:
á
Date is Friday, July 16th from 6:30 until
8:00 p.m. in conjunction with GroovinÕ at the Grove.
á
Cost for a table is $10 for members and $45 for
non-members (which includes membership in the STBA).
á
Expo will be advertised on the Winton Savings marquee
and advertising flyers will be put in businesses.
á
Will have tumbling and karate demonstrations again.
á
Expo is a good opportunity to get information to the
public.
á
The STBA will run a DonatoÕs Pizza booth and Gene
Burton will organize the workers.
Speaker: Rhys Reynolds introduced the speaker, Karen Cladwell, who spoke about identity theft. Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America. One in eight people will be a victim of ID theft.
Announcements:
á GroovinÕ at the Grove Ð Friday, July 16: Business Expo with Beatles tribute band, Eight Days a Week on stage. Friday, August 20: Car and Motorcycle Show with The Bentwood Rockers on stage.
á Jazz in the Park Ð Saturday, August 7 at ParkyÕs Farm.
Andy Boettcher moved to adjourn the meeting. Karen Burton seconded. Meeting was adjourned at 1:05.
