SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

GENERAL MEETING Ð MARCH 11, 2004

 

The luncheon meeting was held at the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA on Winton Road.  There were 15 people in attendance.

 

Following lunch, the meeting was called to order at 11:50 a.m. by President Rhys Deborah Reynolds.  Ms. Reynolds asked for all in attendance to introduce themselves and state what business they represented.

 

TreasurerÕs Report Ð The report was given by President Reynolds in the absence of Treasure Bob Will. 

Balance as of last general meeting - $2,637.02

Income                                        -    $626.21

Expenses                                    -    $559.80                                                              

Current balance                           - $2,703.43

 

Committee reports:

á      Communications Ð Chip Berquist reported that Scott Finke at Brentwood Printing is now putting together the STBA newsletter.  Chip will continue to help coordinate it, but articles should be emailed to prtquick@eos.net. 

á      Programs Ð Nancy Phillips reported that todayÕs speaker is Kathy Dennis with WorkforceSolutions.  Ms. Phillips is hoping to bring someone to speak on identity theft to the May general meeting.  The next meeting is on Thursday, May 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the Springfield Township Senior Center, 9158 Winton Road.

á      Membership Ð Karen Burton reported that renewal notices went out in February and so far 26 businesses have renewed. their memberships.  A second notice will be sent at the end of March.  She also stated that if a business would like to be the Spotlight article in the newsletter to let Scott Finke (Brentwood Printing) know.

 

Township Update:

Chris Gilbert, new Development Services Director for Springfield Township, was introduced and gave the following report:

á      In November, the township will ask voters to approve a Winton Road corridor overlay district, township zoning and a property maintenance code. 

á      Construction on the new Kroger site has begun.  I may be completed by the fourth quarter of this year.  There are currently no tenants approved for the old site.

á      If any business would like to discuss moving into the Kroger building, please refer them to Chris Gilbert, 522-1410.  Chris will send the building specs to Rhys to keep on file in the event that a business is looking for space.

á      Mr. Gilbert reported that the Springfield Township Police Department expansion and renovation is complete.  A dedication and open house will be held on Saturday, May 15 beginning at 9:30 a.m.

á      The Fire Department construction is on schedule and should be completed by October of 2004.

á      Chris also reported that he met with officials from the City of Forest Park to discuss widening Hamilton Avenue through the business district.  Springfield Township is working with the economic development department in Forest Park to make improvements to Hamilton Avenue.  They are currently looking for funding

á      Laura Kinney, owner of the ÒCurvesÓ womenÕs fitness center in Finneytown, said a new ÒCurvesÓ will soon open at the Civic Center Plaza in the Seven Hills area.

 

Old Business:

á      President Reynolds informed the group that she plans to contact the lawyer who drew up the paperwork for the Sharonville Chamber of Commerce.  She will ask for a bid to complete our application and proceed with the process.

á      The Regional Commerce Partnership Directory is being compiled.  All artwork and information will be submitted on Monday, March 15.   The directory will be ready for distribution in 4 weeks.  Two directories will be mailed to each STBA member.

 

Speaker:  Ryhs Reynolds introduced the speaker, Kathy D. Dennis, senior consultant for WorkforceSolutions.  Ms. DennisÕ presentation was titled, ÒRecruiting for the 21st Century: Tips for Recruiting a Multicultural Workforce.Ó  A copy of her presentation is available by calling Melanie McNulty at 522-1410.

 

Announcements:

á      Business Expo at GroovinÕ at the Grove Ð President Reynolds feels a larger trade show put on by the STBA and another business association or chamber of commerce would be of more benefit to participating businesses.  Karen Burton feels the Expo gives participating businesses much visibility and hopes to continue the event.  The Board will discuss this and have a recommendation at the May general meeting.

á      GroovinÕ at the Grove Ð Friday, July 16 and Friday, August 20.  The Board will discuss the STBA running the grilled food booth again for these events at their April meeting.

á      Jazz in the Park Ð Joint venture with Springfield Township, Hamilton County Park District, City of Forest Park and Project ArtReach as major sponsors of the Saturday, August 7th free jazz concert at ParkyÕs Farm.

á      Great American Cleanup Ð Springfield Township is joining the national cleanup day for a third year.  Date is Saturday, April 24.  This yearÕs goal is to pick up litter along the Winton Road corridor from North Bend Road to Lakeridge Road.  Volunteers should meet at the Fire Station, 8375 Winton Road, at 8:45 a.m. to receive T-shirts, supplies and instructions and a bite to eat.  Cleanup ends at noon with a pizza lunch.

 

 

 

á      The next general meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Springfield Township Senior Center on Thursday, May 13.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 1:10 p.m. by President Reynolds.
