SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

GENERAL MEETING — JULY 12, 2001

Vice President, Deborah Reynolds, opened the meeting at 11:55 P.M. Deborah then introduced, Andy Boecher from the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA, who was hosting the meeting. Cost per member was $5.00. There were 21 members in attendance.

Ms. Reynolds introduced Barry Whitt, American Express Financial Advisors, Inc., invited to speak to the group after lunch on tax preparation and ideas for planning for the second half of this year and into 2002.

Speaker — Barry Whitt moved his financial planning office to Springfield Township one year ago. He is located at 8952 Winton Road. Barry urged the group to invest for the future and to put away the maximum amount allowable by law into a retirement fund. It is the largest tax deduction one may take. Mr. Whitt explained how the tax laws have changed under President Bush's plan, but that all will be repealed in 2010 unless congress acts to change the bill. Mr. Whitt also passed out two brochures meant to answer questions about the tax laws and retirement: "2001 Tax Law Summary" and "Your Guide to the New Retirement Distribution Rules."

Business Expo — Don Huff reported that plans for the table top show on July 13 at Groovin’ at the Grove have gone well. Twenty-one tables have been sold for the event. Don urged participants to be creative with their displays. He also showed posters made for the Expo, as well as tickets and informational sheet. Posters have been placed in store windows at Brentwood Shopping Plaza and other locations. Andy Boecher volunteered to wear a bowling pin outfit at Groovin’ at the Grove and distribute tickets to people encouraging them to go through the Expo…"it will bowl you over!" Expo time is 6:30 until 8:00 P.M.

Land Use/Zoning Report — Bob Trenkamp had nothing to report.

Treasurer’s Report — Bob Will reported that at the last general meeting on May 10 there was a balance of $3,816.80. Income was $16.88 and expenses were $347.77 for a current balance of $3,486.41.

President Gorman reported that there is a committee looking into setting up guidelines for giving. The Business Association has been asked to contribute to many projects and guidelines need to be followed.

Joe Gorman congratulated Communications Chairperson, Chip Berquist, for the outstanding job he has done to get out the newsletter through the mail and e-mail.

He then reported that there was a small turn out, due to a storm, for the social held at Sunrise Assisted Living on June 14. Deborah Reynolds emphasized that these events are

never cancelled because of bad weather. She sets them up at places available for indoors or outdoors.

Food Booth — Maggie Wesley reported that she has some help for the booth and volunteers to grill the food. She also mentioned that others are welcome to work for a short time and help out at Groovin’ at the Grove.

Maggie also brought up the idea of STBA embroidered golf shirts. She feels they will look nice for people working in the food booth or at other Association functions. Ms. Wesley will look into this.

Groovin’ at the Grove — Melanie McNulty thanked township businesses for their support as sponsors of the event and asked for more trophy sponsors for the car show in August.

Deanna Kuennan was asked to report on the Colerain Township Business Association open house that she attended. There were 50 — 60 people in attendance, which was a large crowd for them. Anthony Cole, a motivational speaker, was on their agenda for the day. He spoke about the unrealized potential of employees. Deanna passed around a copy of Mr. Cole’s handout and her own summary his talk. Ms. Kuennan feels communication with other business associations will help our own, in particular, the development of a strategic plan for STBA. Sharing ideas for membership and programs is a positive thing.

Larry Stone, of Rumpke, has asked the STBA for a donation to help with renovation of the Skyline Community Center in Skyline Acres on Pippin Road. The Community Center is located in Colerain Township, however, Springfield Township helps support it each year, as it serves the needs of many families living in our Township. President Gorman said the Business Assocation will help with a financial donation yet to be determined.

Andy Boecher, of the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA was introduced and spoke briefly about the Y’s mission and out reach program. The YMCA is a non-profit organization that helps many families each year through its scholarship programs. The Y is hoping to begin a buddy type program with businesses that would emphasize team building. Andy then invited all attendees to join him in a tour of the YMCA.

Two new members were welcomed: Cindy Summers, an attorney located on Compton Road, and Scott Fowler, owner of Affordable Wireless on Winton Road.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:05 P.M.

Then next regular meeting of the STBA is Thursday, September 13 at 8:00 A.M. in the Springfield Township Senior Center, Room A.

The next Board meeting will be held at the Township Administration Building at 8:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 9th.

Respectfully submitted,

Melanie McNulty, Recording Secretary
