SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
Board of Directors Meeting August 8, 2002
PRESENT: Deborah Reynolds, Bob Will, Chip Berquist, Bob Trenkamp, Denise Cagle and Melanie McNulty.
The Board of Directors met at 8:00 a.m. in the Springfield Township Administration Building. The meeting was called to order at 8:15 by President Deborah Reynolds.
Treasurers Report Bob Will reported a balance of $2,850.06 as of the last meeting. Income was $647.62 and expenses totaled $906.15 (mostly postage costs). The current balance is $2,591.53.
Communications Chip Berquist asked for all newsletter information and articles to be submitted by August 30. The newsletters should go out on September 6.
Programs Denise Cagle reported that Scott Katz will speak at the general membership meeting on September 12. Mr. Katz is with Midland Atlantic, a company that manages retail centers. His topic will pertain to leasing property in general; the pro and cons of retailing in Springfield Township and how to improve it.
Denise hopes to also get Elizabeth Nichols to speak at the November meeting. Ms. Nichols represents New Plan Realty as a leasing agent.
The STBA Open House is on hold until sometime in October.
Business Expo There was discussion on the success of this years Business Expo held in conjunction with Groovin at the Grove on July 12. All felt the Expo went well considering the amount of time we had to put it together. There was good participation for the giveaways. The Board feels people signing up for giveaways should be told that a business may be calling and that a list should be made for businesses participating.
Membership/Directory Karen Burton and Maggie Wesely have been working on the membership list. Bob Will gave Karen all new and renewal applications as well as a current list of members of the association. All members will soon have a list of current members.
Land Use and Zoning Bob Trenkamp reported there is no new information on land use and zoning at this time. He did state that the Springfield Township Vision Plan will be presented to the public at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13 in the Allen Paul Room. The streetscape plan will be presented to the public on Monday, August 19 at 6:30.
Groovin at the Grove Melanie McNulty asked if the Business Association would sponsor a trophy for the upcoming car show. Chip Berquist made the motion to sponsor a trophy for $30. Bob Trenkamp seconded. The motion passed. Maggie Wesley is chairing the food booth again.
Old Business President Reynolds is continuing to pursue the option of the STBA joining a larger association. Part of the reason for aligning with a larger group is to receive the membership benefits and also to have more clout as an association. One association she is looking into is the Regional Commerce Partnership. She has contacted Kathy Walters, a consultant, who is part of the Partnership. Evendale and Woodlawn are members of this group. Deborah plans to attend the next board meeting and find out how much it costs to join. Chip Berquist suggested STBA look into the Southern Ohio Chamber Alliance, a group Forest Park is a member of. The SOCA offers health benefits to it members at reduced rates.
New Business President Reynolds reported that the business association needs new stationary with updated information on it. She also suggested STBA lease a post office box, so it has its own identity. Currently all mail goes to the Springfield Township Administration Offices. The board will designate money toward a P.O. box when a size/price is decided upon.
Much discussion took place about the current "Articles of Association of the Springfield Township Business Association." Perhaps a new position needs to be added for someone to handle all mail and the post office box. All board members are asked to look at the current "Articles of Association" and bring ideas for changes or recommendations for changes to the October 10 Board of Directors meeting. Most of the time that day will be spent amending current articles. Please open the second attachment to this email that contains the "Articles of Association" and read them over carefully. Bring ideas to the October 10 Board meeting. The plan is to vote on these changes at the November meeting prior to the election of officers.
The next General Meeting will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 8:00 a.m. in Room B of the Senior Center. President Deborah Reynolds will not be in attendance and has asked another board member to conduct the meeting.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:30.
Respectfully submitted,
Melanie McNulty
