SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

Board of Directors Meeting — August 9, 2001

PRESENT: Joseph Gorman, Deborah Reynolds, Bob Will, Bob Trenkamp, Maggie Wesley, Chip Berquist and Melanie McNulty.

The Board of Directors met at 8:00 A.M. at the Springfield Township Administration Building, 9150 Winton Road.

Treasurer’s Report: Bob Will reported a total of 64 paid members. This is down from last year. At the last board meeting there was a beginning balance of $3,629.50. Income totaled $878.87 and expenses were $1,221.08, leaving a current balance of $3,287.29. An income of over $400.00 came from the food booth at Groovin’at the Grove on July 13. Expenses were largely due to the purchase of polo shirts with STBA logos printed on them.

Groovin’ at the Grove: Maggie Wesley thanked all who helped work at the food booth. President Joe Gorman said Maggie did a tremendous job in organizing and running the booth. It was the most successful the food booth has ever been and it was nice to have a person running it who knew what they were doing. A big thank you to Maggie!

Membership: In an effort to get more participation from current STBA members, Maggie Wesley will personally contact members and invite them to the next general meeting on September 13th. She is open to any suggestions to help get people active in the business association.

Business Expo: Don Huff did a good job with the organization of the Expo this year. We would still like to see more people coming to the Expo to learn about local businesses. Thanks to Andy Boecher, of the YMCA, for walking through the crowd and inviting people inside.

Nominations Committee: Joe Gorman stated that we need to organize a nominating committee for the upcoming election of officers at our November meeting.

Grant Guidelines: Bob Trenkamp and Bess Sprockett worked briefly on a list of criteria to consider when the business association is asked for a contribution. After discussion from the board, the following motion was made by Deborah Reynolds.

To go into effect for the 2002 calendar year: The STBA will earmark $1,000 for gifts/donations, with a maximum donation set at $250 to any one request. Bob Trenkamp seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Bob Trenkamp and Bess Sprockett will review all written requests and make recommendations to the board.

Recently, there were two requests to the business association that President Gorman wanted to act upon:

1. Deborah Reynolds made a motion to donate $250.00 to the Skyline Acres Community Center Youth Basketball League. This was a request from Larry Stone. Bob Will seconded and the motion passed.

  1. Bess Sprockett had previously requested $500 - $800 for the New Burlington Elementary School accelerated reading cart program. Deborah Reynolds made the motion to donate $500 for this project. Bob Will seconded and the motion passed.

Deborah Reynolds will call Heidi Fallon to put out a press release about the two grants.

Communications Report: Chip Berquist asked about the policy regarding distribution of the STBA member mailing list. He recently had two requests for the list from current members. A motion was placed on the floor by Chip to provide the member mailing list to members of the association upon request. Motion was seconded by Bob Will and passed by a unanimous vote.

Articles for the next newsletter must be submitted to Chip by August 30th.

STBA Polo Shirts: Bob Will brought in golf shirts ordered with the business association logo on them. Shirts are white with blue printing. Each shirt cost $10.50, but STBA will charge members $5.00 a shirt and absorb the rest of the cost. The board is not happy with the placement of the printed name, so Bob will try to get the company to reprint the shirts.

Woodlawn Chamber of Commerce: Melanie McNulty reported that the Chamber will hold its next regular meeting at noon on Thursday, September 20 at the Quality Inn across from St. Rita’s. Reservations must be made. Deborah Reynolds plans to attend.

Next Meeting: Will be held on Thursday, September 13th at the Springfield Township Senior Center. The meeting will begin at 8:00 A.M. and the topic will be the STBA Strategic Plan. A survey will be sent to business members in the next newsletter. The Finneytown Schools Levy Committee will also speak briefly about the upcoming levy on the November ballot.

Respectfully submitted,

Melanie McNulty, Recording Secretary
