SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

GENERAL MEETING – MAY 12, 2005

The breakfast meeting was held at The Springfield Township Senior/Community Center.

The meeting was called to order at 8:07 a.m. by President Rhys Reynolds. Ms. Reynolds asked all in attendance to introduce themselves and state what business they represented or owned. There were 14 members and 4 panelists in attendance.

Treasurer’s Report – Bob Will gave the following report:

Balance as of last general meeting - $2,486.29

Income - $2,188.68

Expenses - $2,449.53

Balance - $2,225.44

The RCP cost $835, but expenses will be covered by business ads placed by STCC members.

Election of Officers –

Ms. Reynolds expressed her desire to fill the vacant positions on the Board and asked for volunteers to fill the vacancies until regular elections take place at the November meeting.

For the Vice President’s position, Rhys nominated Laura Kinney. The nomination was seconded and Ms. Kinney accepted her nomination.

The following people were elected to the Board by a unanimous vote of attending members:

President – Ryhs Reynolds

Vice President – Laura Kinney

Treasurer – Bob Will

Recording Secretary – Melanie McNulty

Trustees:

Communications - Scott Finke and Chip Berquist

Land Use and Zoning – MarkBurchett

Membership – Chris Vogelsang (**at the conclusion of the regular meeting, Ms. Vogelsang offered to chair the Membership Committee. She was then appointed to the position by President Reynolds.)

Change in By-laws –

Due to a decrease in participation at the general meetings, the Board voted last month to amend the current By-Laws to read: “The general meetings of the Members shall be held semi-annually on the second Thursday of May and November beginning Thursday, May 12, 2005, unless the Board deems it necessary to change the date.”

A motion to accept the amended By-Law as read was made by Scott Finke. The motion was seconded and passed.

Chamber of Commerce Updates –

• Regional Commerce Partnership (RCP) – the 2005 directories have been mailed to all STCC members. Ms. Reynolds encouraged members to use businesses listed in the directory.
• Business of the Month – Rhys proposed to have a Business of the Month program with information appearing in the newsletter about the business, as well as have its name put on the scrolling sign at the Township Administration Building. The next Business of the Month to be recognized is the Marathon Gas Station at the corner of Winton and Galbraith Roads.

Panel Discussion – Business Essentials:

The following people participated in a panel discussion about a variety of business topics.

• Chris Gilbert – Springfield Township Development Services Director. Township update on new business development on the Winton Road corridor, Vine Street and Hamilton Avenue.
• Gene Burton – Agent with the Will Insurance Agency. Overview of what types of business insurance are available and why businesses should have them.
• Pat Snyder – CPA withP.A. Snyder and Co. Information about the new business tax laws.
• Karyl Cunningham – Executive Director of the Emmanuel Community Center. Spoke about Human Resources from her 13 years of experience in the field.

Announcements –

• Groovin’ at the Grove sponsored by Springfield Township. Dates: Friday, July 22^nd beginning at 5:30 p.m. Jazz band to start off the evening. The band “Dakota” playing from 7 – 10 p.m. STCC will again run the Donato’s Pizza booth as a fund-raiser. There will be no Business Expo this year, however, a fall Expo may be planned.

Saturday, August 20^th – Seventh Annual Car Show. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m. Awards at 4:00. DJ during the day. The band “Nightlife” is on stage from 7 - 10 p.m. STCC will again run the Donato’s booth.

• Smooth Jazz in the Park Festival – Sponsored by Project ArtReach and partially funded by Forest Park and Springfield Township. Saturday, August 6^th beginning at 5 p.m. at Central Park in Forest Park. Family event. Free. Get children involved in music and art at the Kidz Art of Jazz tent.
• RCP Power Luncheon – Wednesday, May 18^th at the Holiday Inn, 3855 Hauck Road in Sharonville. Begins at 11:00 a.m. with a networking game. Buffet lunch at 11:45. Maryann Vailone will discuss “How to Establish a Great Marketing Program.” Cost is $15 for all member of the Springfield Township Chamber of Commerce. $20 – non-members.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 a.m.

**Next Board meeting – Thursday, June 9^th beginning at 8:00 a.m. It will be held at the Northminster Family Life Center at the corner of W. Compton Road and Woodview Drive. Please park in the Northminster Presbyterian Church parking lot and walk to the center via the sidewalk.
