SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
GENERAL MEETING – MAY 11, 2006
The luncheon meeting was held at the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA on Winton
Road
Following lunch, the meeting was called to order at noon by president
Rhys Reynolds.
Ms. Reynolds introduced Ms. Cindy Tomaszewski, Executive Director of
the YMCA.
There were ten members in attendance and all attendees introduced
themselves and told what businesses they represented.
President Reynolds said the main focus of the meeting is to get an
update of new development in Springfield Township.

RCP (Regional Commerce Partnership) Update:

The 2006 directory has
been sent to members. All should
have received one. If they did
not, please contact Rhys Reynolds.

There are seven
Chambers of Commerce that belong to the RCP, and all of the member businesses
are listed in the directory.
·
Listing of your
business is a benefit of membership in the STCC.
SOCA (Southern Ohio Chamber Alliance)
·
STCC is also a member
of this organization.
·
SOCA offers health,
dental and vision plans to chamber members at good rates, another benefit of
membership in the STCC.
Announcements:
·
Rhys Reynolds gave
information about two Golf Outings for this summer: 1) 2006 Chambers of
Commerce Golf Outing @ The Mill Course, Wednesday, July 26th. Shot gun start at 11:00 A.M. Cost is $360 per foursome. Call Kathy Walters at (513) 741-7951

Greater Cincinnati Women’s Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing on Monday, June 12th. Call Frances at (513) 362-2724 for more
information.

Melanie McNulty
announced that Springfield Township is hosting a two-day summer event called
SummerBlast. It has taken the
place of Groovin’ at the Grove.
The Township and the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA have partnered on the event
being held on Friday evening, June 30th and Saturday, July 1st. A barbecue cook-off will take place at
the Grove (9150 Winton Road) on Friday evening and The Rusty Griswolds will
play on stage from 7 until 10 PM.
Saturday morning the Y will hold its Keller-Yeomans 5K Race beginning at
10:30 AM from Brentwood Plaza and ending at the Grove. A parade will follow the race leaving
Brentwood Plaza at 10:45 AM, proceeding north on Winton Road and ending at the Grove. The 8th Annual Car Show will
be held from noon until 4 PM.
There will be kids activities both days and plenty of food and drinks
available. Saturday night DixZ
Highway will play live on stage from 7 until 10 PM. The evening will end with a Rozzi’s fireworks display at
10:15. Check the Township website

Ms. Reynolds announced
she is part of a Finneytown Summit group that is meeting to discuss issues in
the Springfield Township area. The
group will look to the business community to help as well.
Guest Speaker:
President Reynolds introduced Chris Gilbert, Development Services
Director for Springfield Township to give a Township update.

Township is forming a
new Vision Committee to work on updating the current Vision Plan.
·
Winton Road widening
to take place between Reynard to Fleming road. Will add a turn lane.
The Township will install decorative lighting, colored and stamped
sidewalks, benches, etc. after the county has completed the roadwork. Construction is to begin in February or
March of 2007.
·
The old Kroger site is
under contract with a new owner.
Owner will present an informal plan for development at an open meeting
at 6 PM on Thursday, May 18th.
·
Springfield Township,
Wyoming and City of Cincinnati are conducting a Vine Street corridor study.
·
The Township is
talking to Forest Park about the Seven Hills area and how to improve the area
for economic development. One
problem is that Hamilton Avenue is a two-lane road.
Ms. Reynolds asked Mr. Gilbert to briefly discuss the proposed TEL (Tax
Expenditure Limitation) Amendment.
Also known as TABOR.

Amendment would be
severely detrimental to local governments. They would be limited to spending only 3.5% above the
previous year’s expenditures.

Citizen’s must read
and understand the facts about this amendment proposed by Ken Blackwell.
Other Announcements:
·
The STCC window clings
are being distributed. Members
will be sent their cling displaying the STCC logo in a packet to be mailed out
later this month.
·
The RCP Power Lunch is
Wednesday, May 17th at 11:30.
It will be held at the Ramada Plaza, 11911 Sheraton Lane in
Springdale. Cost is $15. Speaker is Dennis L. Speigel, President
of International Theme Park Services, Inc. and innovator of the new Purple
People Bridge Walk.

Smooth Jazz in the
Park Festival will be held at Parky’s Farm on Saturday, August 5th.
Ms. Reynolds adjourned the meeting at 1:03 PM.
