SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
Board of Directors Meeting October 10, 2002
PRESENT: Deborah Reynolds, Bob Will, Chip Berquist, Denise Cagle, Melanie McNulty and Joseph Gorman.
The Board of Directors met at 8:00 a.m. in the Springfield Township Administration Building. The meeting was called to order at 8:10 by President Deborah Reynolds.
Treasurers Report Bob Will reported a balance as of the last board meeting of $2,591.53. Income was $542.84 and expenses totaled $271.49, leaving a current balance of $2,862.88.
Committee Reports:
- Communications Chip Berquist reported that the deadline for articles for the next newsletter is Friday, November 8. The newsletter will go to the printer on November 11.
- Programs Denise Cagle reported that the next general meeting is Thursday, November 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the Waycross studios. Elections will be held that day. Denise will call Judge Dinkelacher to swear in the new officers and trustees. Bob Will said he would be a good speaker for the meeting in addition to the swearing in ceremony. Denise will contact the Seven Hills LaRosas to cater this meeting. Cost to be determined.
- Membership Karen Burton continues to work on the membership directory.
- Land Use and Zoning Past President Joseph Gorman, gave a review of property issues going on in the Finneytown area of the township. He also brought up the idea of a property maintenance code currently being discussed by Township Administration and Trustees, and is concerned about the expense it may bring to tax payers. Mr. Gorman then asked for official approval to continue to represent the Springfield Township Business Association as a participant on the Land Use and Zoning Committee for the Finneytown Civic Association. Melanie McNulty made the motion to allow Joe to continue to represent the STBA on this committee. Bob Will seconded and the motion passed.
Review of By Laws The following is a list of changes the Board is proposing to the existing Articles of Association. These proposed changes will be voted upon at the general membership meeting on November 21. (Additions are underlined):
Article II
- Membership
All businesses, or organizations doing business within the boundaries of Springfield Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, which have paid dues as provided in Subsection (C) are Members of the Association.
Article III
- General Meeting of Members
The general meetings of the Members shall be held bi-monthly, except during July, on the second Thursday of the month at 8:00 a.m., beginning Thursday, May 14, 1998, unless the Board deems it necessary to change the date, and or, time.
- Order of Business
Unless otherwise ordered by a majority of the voting Members present, the order of business at any Annual Meeting or Special Meeting of the Members shall be: roll call; reading of the minutes from the prior annual meeting; reports of officers and committees; unfinished business; election of officers and trustees; and new or miscellaneous business.
Article IV
- Qualifications; Term; Votes
Strike the last sentence which reads: Any Trustee and/or Officer can only be elected to two successive terms to the same office.
Article VI
- Standing Committees and Subcommittees; Appointments; Composition
Strike the Communication Committee and add: Public Relations Committee and Membership Committee.
- Membership Committee
The Membership Committee shall prepare and distribute annually an Association directory; recruit new members; distribute new member informational packets and maintain communication with existing members.
- Public Relations Committee
The Public Relations Committee will promote the Association and publicize and inform the community of programs, projects and activities. The Public Relations Committee will work in conjunction with the Corresponding Secretary.
Old Business:
- The idea for an October Open House was tabled.
- Membership in the Regional Consortium was tabled.
New Business:
- Deborah will look into the idea of changing the name of the Springfield Township Business Association to the Springfield Township Chamber of Commerce, as a chamber sounds more viable than an association. She will look into what that name change would mean to the organization.
- RCP Holiday Party at Dave and Busters, Thursday, December 12. Networking and cash bar begin at 11:00 with lunch served at noon. The meeting is adjourned at 1:00. There is no membership fee to join the RCP. To participate in the Holiday Party they are asking for a $25 or more gift to be donated to the event. Cost is $16 per person. Checks should be sent to Bob Will, who will then send a check with the total number of participants from the STBA.
- Ohio Bicentennial committee representative needed. Melanie McNulty is organizing a committee to brainstorm ideas for an Ohio Bicentennial celebration in 2003 for Springfield Township. The committee will be made up of representatives from civic associations, the Citizens Police Academy, the Springfield Township Business Association and employees of Springfield Township.
- Nominating Committee Deborah will call the current membership committee to help nominate people for positions as officers and trustees.
- Holiday Winter Festival at the Grove Melanie will call Maggie Wesley to see if she will chair the drink booth for the event on Sunday, December 8.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
The next general meeting will be held on Thursday, November 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the Waycross Studios.
