SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

Board of Directors Ð April 8, 2004

 

PRESENT:  Rhys Reynolds, Bob Will, Karen Burton, Nancy Phillips, Leo Broerman and Melanie McNulty.

 

The meeting was held at RileyÕs Restaurant and called to order at 8:20 a.m.

 

TreasurerÕs Report Ð Bob Will gave the following financial report:

                                   Balance as of last Board meeting    $2,637.02

                                   Income                                            1,815.55

                                   Expenses                                         1,366.80

                                   Current balance                              $3,085.75

 

The RCP Directory is ready and will be sent to members.  Some businesses that took out ads still owe.  Bob is checking into who has not paid.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Communications:  The Board would like Scott Finke of Brentwood Printing to attend future Board meetings.  Ryhs will call Scott and ask that the next newsletter go out by April 26th.  Articles should be into Scott by April 19th.

 

Programs:  Nancy Phillips reported that Karen Caldwell is scheduled to speak about identity theft at the May 13th general meeting.

 

Membership:  Bob Will reported that there are 35 paid members.  A second notice will go out after taxes are due.

 

Old Business Ð

á      Business Expo at GroovinÕ at the Grove Ð Date of Expo is Friday, July 16th  from 6 Ð 8 p.m.  Discussion took place about charging members a nominal fee to participate.  Non-members would pay a fee to participate and become a member of the Association.  It was agreed that more publicity would help attract more participants.  Karen Burton offered to take charge of the Expo again.

á      GroovinÕ at the Grove food booth Ð Melanie reported that she has asked the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association to take over the food booth and allow STBA to work the soft drink booth.  She will let the Board know if they are agreeable.  A volunteer is needed to be chairperson and others are needed to work from 5:00 until 10:00 on July 16th and August 20th.

á      Great American Cleanup Ð Volunteers are needed for the cleanup on Saturday, April 24.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Fire Station at 8375 Winton Road.  Cleanup is from 9 until noon.

á      Chamber of Commerce Ð President Reynolds reported that she has not found a lawyer to volunteer his/her services to fill out the paper work for STBA to become a Chamber of Commerce. 

 

New Business Ð

 

á      Regional Commerce Partnership Ð There is no update from the last meeting, as no one was able to attend.  Nancy Phillips offered to attend future meetings, if needed.

á      Business Networking Ð Discussion took place about a networking social event.  This event would be open to all businesses - to give them, and the association, more exposure.  The event will be planned for late August or early September.

á      Newsletter Ð Melanie and Karen will write an article for the newsletter promoting the Business Expo and GroovinÕ at the Grove.  Melanie will also write an article asking for a chairperson for the food booth, as well as for volunteers.

á      Next General Meeting Ð Thursday, May 13th at the Springfield Township Senior Center in Room A beginning at 11:30.  Melanie will call DonatoÕs Pizza to order the food.

á      Next Board Meeting Ð Thursday, June 10th at 8:00 a.m. at the Township Administration Building.
